Things I Miss (II)

Hearing certain friends’ ringtones.

This kind of ties into the last one, in that some of those friends are college friends I haven’t spoken to since.  For some, it’s been more than four years since their ringtone went off.  For others, it’s been closer to one year.  Either way, I miss it.

I have had an abnormal and unhealthy fixation on ringtones ever since I figured out how to put them on my phone for free.  Everybody gets their own ringtone, every ringtone is assigned to one person for good.  They don’t necessarily define that person in any way besides indicating they’re calling or texting, they’re not necessarily matched up to someone’s characteristics, but they are that person’s ringtone, period.

And, as a result, there are ringtones I’d get excited about hearing that I don’t hear anymore.  Part of it is just a natural “people moving on” kind of thing.  But that doesn’t mean there aren’t times when my phone vibrates and then starts playing “Moonage Daydream,” but I’m disappointed somewhere in my brain that it wasn’t playing “Karn Evil 9.”
